THE WINEYARDS
Zoning means knowing everything deeply
Just because of this need to know the land, Azienda Agricola Mario Schiopetto decided to realize a detailed mapping of its wineyards, so becoming able to follow – from the harvesting of the grapes to the final assembly – the production cycle of every vine, and therefore able to attend every single plant of a wineyard and identify the different types of soil in an area strongly characterized by the presence of a typical Friuli marl called “ponca”, made up mainly of limestone and clay.
The study of soils and the areas where the wineyards are located lead to the Company's decision to acquire another estate in the Eastern Hills of Friuli – the Podere dei Blumeri in Oleis – where, even if soil composition is very similar to Capriva's, the ripening of red grapes definetely is better thanks to a different microclimate.
Wineyard as gardens
The land and its care being so important, Azienda Agricola Mario Schiopetto makes big investments in the maintenance of its wineyards and therefore decided – first among all others – to take up the experimentation of a new method of vine pruning. A careful attention to the training of its staff allowed a deeper knowledge of the vine and a consequent better application of the pruning method, with relevant benefits for the vine itself and the grapes produced.
The great importance assigned to the care of the land is a legacy of Mario Schiopetto, the founder of the Company: according to him, the real good and the real strength of the Company are the land and the vine. The land offers the raw material for making a good product.
