WHITE WINES THAT HAVE MADE THE HISTORY OF COLLIO

25 years of GAMBERO ROSSO - Mario was the company's founding in the mid-'60s, when he rented an old farm and tried to implement what
he had seen and more appreciated by visiting the best production areas in Europe. Then slowly worked his interpretation of the territory, adapting these teachings in the Collio area, with results that have become increasingly convincing. Today, his children, Maria Angela, Carlo and Giorgio, take care of the vineyards (which exceeded 30 hectares), production and marketing.

FROM FATHER TO SON

Case & Coutry Class - December 2011 - A range of wines for one of the main authors of wine Renaissance in Collio.

FRIULANO - COLLIO FRIULANO 2009 - 90 POINTS

Straw alive and bright. Very varietal nose with mineral notes, slightly smoky, hints of wild flowers, fresh almond and white peach. Well balanced, composed, cool, almost salty, with a final thin, determined and persistent, elegant and very pleasant. Stainless. Risotto with seafood.

DUEMILAVINI 2012

Mario Schiopetto, who left us for some years, was one of the founders of country wines of Collio and their modern interpretation. Today his sons Carlo ,Giorgio and Maria Angela continue his work, with very encouraging results. Some of the wines they offer are among the best of their kind and not disfigure the comparison of the true masterpieces that made their father. What is striking is the longevity of MARIO SCHIOPETTO WHITE 2008 - 5 BUNCHES - Complex, full, with aromas of almond, milk and fresh, with notes of yellow plum and pineapple. Gritty, a strong acid salt, fresh, fruity, with soft component that balances well the edginess and a prelude to a long, warm and caressing final. Steel 20 months, 10 barrels. Recommended with spaghetti and lobster.

1001 VINI DA PROVARE NELLA VITA - Una selezione dei migliori vini di tutto il mondo -

The farm is one of the best in Friuli Collio area. The family’s 30 hectares of vineyards stretch across Capriva of Friuli, the Podere of Blumeri and the estate surrounding the former residence of the Archbishop of Gorizia. Elder Schiopetto Mario began producing wines in 1965. She has travelled all the wine regions of Europe and was a pioneer of modern wine production in Friuli. Now the farm owns a splendid cellar in Capriva camouflaged in the hills of Friuli and designed by Tobia Scarpa.
Schiopetto has produced the first Pinot Grigio in 1968, long before it became fashionable. Golden-yellow rather than clear green as many other insipid wines of this variety, Pinot Grigio Schiopetto 2008 shows what can be drawn with this grape, if treated by the right hands.
Rich, tasty and characteristically low in acidity, this wine is long, elegant and pure, without any trace of oak to taste fruity clearly defined the position. Although it is rather concentrated, it should be drunk young because it loses freshness and acidity after three or four years in the bottle.

ESPRESSO - I VINI D'ITALIA 2012

Became established over the years as a model of elegance, clarity and reliability, the Schiopetto Mario winery has consolidated, even after the death of its charismatic founder, this challenging reputation. All the wines all have a perfect aromatic definition, and the technique is often at the service of the nuances of taste and smell and the expressiveness of each variety: in the context of the best white wines of the Collio, a safe value.
COLLIO SAUVIGNON 2009 4 BOTTLES - beautiful color, golden and bright, rich nose without appearing heavy, beautiful ripe palate, full development but nuanced, incisive but not as the final good distinction and definition.

I VINI DI VERONELLI 2012

German technology and French finesse combined realize a Friulian dream. 'This is the philosophy that animated Mario Schiopetto’s work, since, in 1965, he rented an old farm by the Archbishop of Gorizia, which then he purchased in 1989. After his death, the winery is run by children with undiminished commitment.
Wonderful brothers’initiative, with the right vintages aging in glass released after years of rest in the cellar, and only in magnum size. To study, but above all to drink (with the greatest pleasure).
MARIO SCHIOPETTO WHITE MAGNUM 2006 93 POINTS;
PODERE DEI BLUMERI RED 2007 92 POINTS;
MARIO SCHIOPETTO WHITE 2008 92 POINTS;

SLOW WINE 2012

LIFE - This is the company founded by Mario Schiopetto, who was one of the founding fathers of modern Friulian oenology and who brought the wine of the region on national and international scene among the first ones. Now their children Maria Angela, Carlo and Giorgio continue his work, giving a touch of modernity and innovation typical of the new generations. Innovations that result in, among other things, in the research of natural struggle against pathogenic agents.
VINEYARDS - The overview that is seen from the villa, 17 hectares of vineyards on the sweet hills of Capriva, the company is worth the trip. The vineyards, combed like gardens, are treated for over fifteen years by well-known "trainer of grapes" Simonit Marco, who chose prudent pruning methods to preserve their health. Pesticides have been abandoned for years, and new systems of biodynamic strategies are experimented to combat pests biodynamic.
WINE - The care and professionalism are reflected in the high elegant and typical wines, linked to the history of regional wine. The COLLIO FRIULANO 2009 expresses, with hints of mint and almond, the typical grape, the MARIO SCHIOPETTO WHITE 2008 reveals elegance, finesse and minerality together with the balance. But the company is not only specialized in white wines: Consider therefore the absolute value of the BLUMERI RED 2007, very warm and fruity. Definitely worth mentioning are the SAUVIGNON COLLIO 2009, with the beautiful notes of rue, sage and tomato leaf, the COLLIO PINOT WHITE 2009, very agrumat, and WHITE BLANC DES ROSIS, mineral and complex.

UN FRUIT GRAS, FRAIS ET CROQUANT

This familiar Land! Friuli produces white wines of the highest level which sparkle with their purity of flavour and balance, only turned to wine in vats to preserve all the aromas of the fruit. Wines: Pinot Bianco 2008 is certainly one of the greatest expressions that we can find in this variety, offering a bold fruit, fresh and crisp, with notes of white fruit. Friulano 2008 highlights the local grape in a lively and nervous wine, with a beautiful bitterness and notes of almond. Source: La Revue du Vin de France, July / August 2011 it.

A MUST FOR WHITE-WINE FANATICS - Wines of the Week

September 24, 2011. Collio 2008, Friulano, Schiopetto, Italy white. Indigenous grape alert and for you white-wine fanatics, a must. From Italy's northeast, like its relative sauvignon blanc, the friulano leans to the more acidic side of the balance but with a softer edge. Touch of citrus, but the register is more toward melon and ripe apple. Soft, luxurious finish as well with just a faint mineral note. So unique. Serve at 6-8 C. Drink now-2014. Food pairing idea: risotto with or without seafood. Source: Montrèal Gazette By BILL ZACHARKIW, Freelance

THE ELEGANCE OF THE “COLLIO”- PINOT BLANC Schiopetto

September 2011. An elegant wine, structured, stylish, aristocratic and very territorial. Young, vibrant and crisp, promises exciting developments. Bright straw yellow, the nose is fresh and sweet white flowers, acacia and cherry, and yellow mimosa, almond and dried candy that blends with the fruit of peach, gooseberry, melon, pineapple, mango, mulberries and white currants, lemon balm with vegetables, balsamic citrus and even alpine scrub cedar and orange jellies and also in a subtle and elegant mineral notes. On the palate is well balanced, fresh and soft, of good sparkling tast and important, but well integrated, sapid shoulder. The aftertaste, initially in line with the sweetness of the direct path, fading in the final of less mature and very fruity with hints of mineral salt. It will be perfect with pappardelle with ragu of redfish and shrimp pink, or with St. Peter's fillet in almond crust.

THIS IS A MONUMENT TO THE FRIULIAN WINE

August 18, 2011. Mario Schiopetto is a monument to the Friuli wine. In the mid-sixties, when in Italy drinking good wine wasn't so common, Schiopetto put his knowledge of international varieties by making significant improvement in the quality of the production of his company and the whole Friuli region. Thus it is right that his children, now managers of the company (Maria Angela, Carlo and the wine-expert George) have devoted the most important wine of the house, Mario Schiopetto White (Chardonnay and Tocai Friulano). The year 2003 (the wine was produced the previous year) tasted in 2008, proved a great style and a woderful ageing. The 2007 is fresh. The 2009 Blanc de Rosis encompasses all the falvors of Friuli for a great dish of fish. Pleasant aromas even in the sober and delicate Sauvignon , while for those who like a classic wine with a strong personality choose the Friulano. Among the classic ones I would also put the 2009 Pinot Blanc, tonic, full, sunny. The surprise this time is a great red wine, Poder of Blumeri. The basis of Merlot (with a quarter of Refosco and a spray of Cabernet Sauvignon) ensures to this very balanced wine the class of the finest products. SOURCE: PANORAMA, By Bruno Vespa.

SUPERWHITES - "A tutto Tocai" -

24 Maggio 2011. Friulano 2009, Schiopetto (50 thousand bottles – € 16,35)
Almost one quarter of the entire production company (180/200 thousand bottles) is from Friuli. Elegant aromas of apples and freshly cut grass, savory flavor, salt. Aromatic and well-structured, closed down the aroma of bitter almond . It remains a certainty.

ROBERT PARKER

"A brilliant producer, Schiopetto is the reference point for just how flavorful, perfumed, and compelling dry whites from Friuli can be. Mario Schiopetto continues to satiate the olfactory senses and palate with his extraordinary offerings. While not cheap, they are the most compelling tank-fermented and aged dry whites made in north-eastern Italy. Possessing abundant flavors that build incrementally in the mouth, they are dazzling wines that I can't recommend highly enough."

COSA DICONO DI NOI

“Pinot Grigio has clung to northern Italy’s hills of for centuries, but it took modern winemaking techniques – such as temperature-controlled fermentation – and innovative winemakers – such as Mario Schiopetto – to transform an inoffensive (at best) dullish white into the crystal-clean quaff that refresh America’s palate today.”

Hugh Johnson, Wine Atlas 2007

“Legendary pioneer of Collio, with a 20.000 cases production base. Excellent his Sauvignon, Pinot Blanc and Tocai DOC, as well as his ensemble wine known as Blanc des Rosis. The new IGT wines are elegant and generous, with wines from both the area of Collio and Colli Orientali”
